The Edge. Amplified.

Pure Breed. Fresh Thinking.

To be faster. Lighter. Nimbler. To provide undiluted feedback and encourage you to push. To the edge and even further. The new McLaren 600LT Spider takes this formidable mix and intensifies it – heightening every sensation. At the press of a button, the ultra-light retractable hard top roof vanishes beneath its tonneau cover. And puts the driver even closer to the mind bending LT experience. At every compelling moment. Just like every McLaren that has earned the LT name before, the 600LT Spider is aggressively aerodynamic and obsessively light. A Spider without compromise.

Performance

It takes 2.9 seconds to reach 62mph. Matching the 600LT exactly. It will sprint from 0-124mph (200kph). Before powering on to an incredible 201mph (324kph) top speed. At its heart lies enormous power. Propelled by a McLaren 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8, but with an extra 30PS and 20Nm of torque. The superfast Inertia Push gearshifts, developed on the 675LT, offer instant changes and an intoxicating sense of engagement. The only difference is just how close you can get to the sound and sensation of unbridled speed, the moment you lower the roof. Like every LT, 600LT Spider is for driving. Pure and simple. At the edge and on the limit. The torrent of power created by its 600PS engine is immediately accessible. Grip the wheel. The quicker ratio electro-hydraulic steering and stiffer engine mounts respond instantly and give you masses of feedback. Of course the numbers make compelling reading. 600PS. 620Nm of torque. 0 – 62mph [100kph] in 2.9 seconds…But the powertrain in the 600LT Spider has a personality all of its own. Which means experience is everything. Start up the 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 and you’ll hear and feel much more.

Design

The radical fixed aerodynamic package features a unique rear wing. The car is longer at both ends. And lower. The retractable hard top and tonneau storage area flow perfectly into the whole. The 600LT Spider does nothing by halves. And it shows. Among the muscular forms and sharp lines are elements that could only ever be McLaren. The dramatic rear buttresses and dihedral doors. The signature daytime running lights in the shape of the famous speedmark – now darkened and featuring a bespoke 600LT design. Roof up or down, the 600LT Spider has a sense of perfect balance. Everything is there for a purpose. Upholding the LT name in open-air style. Unique to the 600LT models, the top exit stainless steel exhaust system is pure drama. And yet also purely functional. Reducing weight and sharpening engine response, it also enhances powertrain cooling. And like so many elements on this extraordinary car, it delivers an aerodynamic advantage – leaving space free around the rear bumper and diffuser for more streamlined bodywork. The retractable folding hard top operates at speeds up to 25 mph (40kph). In less than 15 seconds the roof lowers and stores – and suddenly you’re sitting in a different kind of LT. One where the sense of speed is even more intense.

Aerodynamics

Many lessons were learned when developing the P1™, 675LT and the McLaren Senna… knowledge that has been applied relentlessly to the 600LT Spider. From the moment air meets the aggressive carbon fibre front splitter, the powerful aerodynamics are optimising its flow. By the time it’s slipped around the fixed rear wing and through the powerful new diffuser, the air has been managed, coerced and persuaded to work with the car. This creates big advantages. Aerodynamic efficiency, cooling and downforce all reap the benefits. For the 600LT Spider’s engine to deliver its sustained rush of power, it needs cool air. Lots of it. There’s a host of ingenious extra cooling solutions… from nose to tail. Even the front splitter has twin end plates that guide air into low temperature radiators mounted beneath each darkened headlight unit. The tonneau cover, that so intelligently stows the lowered roof, also guides cool clean air over the engine bay. Look at the carbon fibre rear deck and you’ll spot larger, finer mesh. It’s better for drawing hot air away from the engine and high temperature radiators.
